Brooke Ray Rivera is Executive Director of Place Lab, formerly Build Public.  Brooke Ray brings significant expertise in creative place-making, community development, and public private partnerships through her professional experience in urban planning, city government, and real estate sectors.  Prior to becoming Place Lab’s first full-time Executive Director in 2015, Brooke Ray spent six years with Passerelle Investment Company, a community-minded real estate investment group focused on downtown revitalization in Silicon Valley.  At Passerelle, she implemented multiple temporary street parks and retail pop-ups, public art exhibitions with SFMOMA, the Exploratorium and Christie's, and other place-making efforts in conjunction with her work attracting and curating a vibrant commercial tenant mix in downtown Los Altos.  Brooke Ray has worked in private, public, and non-profit sectors, and has wide-ranging experience in the realm of sustainable design, from LEED consulting and green infrastructure planning to ecology and marine biology research.  Brooke Ray received a B.A. in Biology from Williams College and holds dual masters degrees in City & Regional Planning (MCP) and Landscape Architecture (MLA) from the University of California, Berkeley.  She lives in San Francisco and can often be found playing ultimate frisbee with her husband or exploring SF’s playgrounds with her 1-year-old daughter.
